Well, the news is out
a bit earlier than I had anticipated... either way, its good news. :)
An overview document
outlining some of the upcoming changes in Windows SharePoint Services SP2 was
released earlier today.
Overview: Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 SP2 Beta in Windows
Server 2003 R2

A particularly
long-standing problem will be eliminated with the release of SP2. Gone
are the days of referring to KB830342!!
I remember the day I first ran across this issue... and the many debates since
that fateful day. This was a very difficult problem to fix and one that
has literally taken years to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Believe it
or not, this fix was in SP1 until it was shown the fix was introducing other
problems. It was pulled, much to the chagrin of a lot of folks.
A lot of folks say
that Microsoft doesn’t listen to your concerns. The elimination of 830342
is proof positive that your PSS calls, support escalations, etc. are heard. :-)
Buh-bye 830342!!
