Creating anonymous surveys without read access
Posted on 8/24/2004 7:27 PM by Maurice Prather

Question:
Can you please tell me how you manage to get to allow anonymous users to fill out a survey without giving them read access to all responses?

Answer:
It's fairly simple, but admittedly not intuitive (at first).

Obviously, the first step is to allow anonymous server access.  This is done via Top-Level Site Administration | Manage Anonymous Access.  Once that is done, follow these four steps:

  1. Create your survey.
  2. Go to Change Permissions for this survey, select Change Anonymous Access.
  3. Turn on Add Items.
  4. Go to Modify item-level security, select "Only their own" for the Read Access option.

Give it a try...  users should be able to respond to the survey anonymously, but unable to view other responses.
